Bicycle UPS
Innovators: Mr. S. Kalidoss and Mr. S.N.
Ganapathy
Description: An Uninterrupted Power Supply for
the headlight of bicycles. In rural areas where
the bicycle is the predominant mode of
transportation and street lighting is irregular,
this innovation assumes significance and can
have a direct impact on the users. The proposal
development has been undertaken with the support
of Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed
University), a nodal partner of L-RAMP.
Multi-purpose Gas Stove
Innovators: Dr. A. Jagadeesh
Description: Modification in gas stove to
increase efficiency when in use, by generating
hot water using waste heat.
Pocket Manuring Stick
Innovators: Mr. S. Raju
Description: A simple portable mechanical
device, to apply pellets of fertilizer in
predetermined quantities. The innovation is
expected to have a positive impact on small
farmers with gain in productivity, and reduced
wastage of fertilizers. The proposal development
has been undertaken with the support of Tamil
Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), a nodal
partner of L-RAMP.
Water Lifting Device
Innovators: Mr. Sakthimaindan
Description: A simple pedal-operated device to
lift water from stagnant places, mostly in
agricultural fields where there are channels in
between patches of crops. The impact will be in
intensive water-fed cultivation. Stagnant water
so cleared can also be used to irrigate land.
Besides, it may also be a useful technique for
better drainage in certain areas. The proposal
development has been undertaken with the support
of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), a
nodal partner of L-RAMP.
Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
Innovators: Mr. Y. Naveen Sathiya
Description: This innovative design claims to
overcome some of the drawbacks in vertical axis
wind turbines that have affected widespread use.
The design is claimed to be suitable for several
energy applications in rural and small-town
contexts.
Reflector for General
Purpose Lighting
Innovators: Mr. N.P. Dhandapani
Description: This Erode-district based physics
graduate has developed an improved design for
Lighting Reflectors. It is claimed that this
innovation will result in energy savings through
better utilisation of light emitted by
fluorescent lamps and other light sources.
Novel Sprinkler
Innovators: Mr. D. Lakshmanan
Description: The innovation is a novel design
for a sprinkler (spray nozzle) that can create a
spray of water (or any other liquid with good
flowing characteristics) without the need for
any moving parts, or small-dimension channels,
in the sprinkler head. The impact is likely to
be in enabling low-cost micro-sprinkler
irrigation for small farmers. The proposal
development has been undertaken with the support
of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), a
nodal partner of L-RAMP.
FRP Shelters
Innovators: Mr. A. Isaac
Description: The claimed innovation is with
reference to usage of Fibre-reinforced plastics
(FRP) as a building construction material.
Its viability for emergency shelters is being
evaluated.
